Sixth Sunday of Easter

Future Plat and Facilities Plan

In last Sunday’s Bulletin, I indicated that St. Ann would have a parish vote on whether to move ahead with a feasibility study regarding the future facilities plan.  I had determined this with Parish Council before we were informed that Fr. Adam would be re-assigned and that it was doubtful the Archdiocese could supply a regular Sunday assistant.  Once I learned of Fr. Adam’s reassignment on Friday, May 12, it seemed prudent to delay the parish vote on moving ahead with a feasibility study.

Since securing a priest to assist with the current Sunday Schedule both at St. Ann and Sacred Heart, and given the fact that the Archdiocese will not allow me to simply celebrate all five Masses (Canon Law prohibits it), we will have to test the availability of retired priests to regularly help on Sunday

Not having a regular celebrant will certainly impact Sunday collections at both parishes in the Pastoral Region.  If after six months or so we are forced to reduce one Mass at each location, the financial impact will be devastating.  Therefore, we will delay the parish vote regarding the feasibility study for the facilities plan until we see how things shake out.

Life in the Spirit Seminar

The Saint Ann/Sacred Heart Pastoral Region is sponsoring a Life in the Spirit Seminar that will begin on Friday, June 2 at 7:00 p.m. and continue on the Fridays thereafter at Sacred Heart.  This is a wonderful way to experience Charismatic Renewal in the Catholic Church.  If you have not ever asked in prayer that the Holy Spirit of God fill you as He filled the hearts of the Apostles at Pentecost, try it.  But be aware, when you ask the Holy Spirit to fill you, it’s like stomping down on the accelerator of a 426 hemi.  Don’t be afraid, just enjoy the ride.

Discalced Carmelites Building Project

Our parishioner Mary Jacquemin is a vowed nun in the Order of the Discalced Carmelite Nuns of the Carmel of Jesus Mary and Joseph.  Her cloistered convent is building a new monastery building.   If you would like to show her your admiration and appreciation, please visit www.friendsofcarmeljmj.org. or retrieve one of the envelopes available at the doors.

Please Remember

This is just a reminder that all active priests of the Archdiocese are required to attend the convocation in Columbus from June 19 to June 22.  There will be no availability for morning Masses or even Funeral Masses on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday June 20-22.  I have made provision at each parish for a communion service each day.  Funerals will of necessity be delayed.

Reflection on Scripture

“I will not leave you orphans!”  Jesus reveals God’s plan that he ascend to the Father and send the Holy Spirit of God (the Third Person of the Holy Trinity) to enliven the Church.  Jesus is the Son of God, the Second Person of the Holy Trinity.  Remember that we believe in One God, in Three Divine Persons.  Jesus wants us to know that he has not decided to abandon us.  Rather, he wants the Church to emerge as his presence in the world.  When he sends the Holy Spirit upon us, all that he planned for the Church will be fulfilled.
