Little Sisters of the Poor
The Little Sisters of the Poor will be at the doors next weekend to collect for their ministry of caring for the elderly poor. I have done funerals and anniversaries at the chapel of St. Paul’s Archbishop Leibold Home for the Aged and can tell you first hand of their wonderful ministry. Please be generous.
Vacation Bible School
This year Sacred Heart will join St. Ann in our Pastoral Region Vacation Bible School to take place at St. Ann. We are now registering students for VBS. Please see registration process defined in this bulletin.
Reflection on Scripture
Jesus promised he would not leave us “orphans” but by the power of the
Holy Spirit make us into his family. We talk about the “family of the Church” as well as the new Feast named “Mary the Mother of the Church.” In today’s gospel, Jesus asks “Who are my mother and brothers?” He then tells us the answer that we (who hear the word of God and keep it) are his family.
Families are historically defined by consanguinity. We are family in the Blood of Christ through the Eucharist. St. Paul also says that we are children of Abraham not by blood, but by faith. Our faith in Jesus Christ and our unity in the Body and Blood of the Lord, make us family in one faith, one hope, and one love.
